Let's make some connections!

What if potty training isn't just about the physical act of using the toilet? What if it is actually a way to form connections between the brain and the bladder that do not exist before potty training?? Does that blow your mind a little?
Here's the thing. Potty training is different for every child because of how quickly or slowly an individual brain processes new information.
I'm still working on potty training my youngest. He is 2 and a half, but he is making some progress. Yesterday I noticed he peed in the tub when the warm water was turned on, so today I got some warm water in a cup and he got to play in it a bit while he was sitting on the potty, and it worked. He made a connection in that moment that would have otherwise been missed.
My methods aren't some deep secrets, nor are they revolutionary. I simply explain the process and shed light on what is happening so that expectations become more realistic. I can give tips on what to do next or on why methods aren't working.
What I won't do is ever promise a set timeline for any child. It isn't for me to decide when a child's brain will form connections, nor is it up to parents, teachers, or well meaning strangers. Every child is unique and every child deserves a fair chance with getting potty trained in ways that actually matter to them.
That's what I offer.
